The Safe Route to Moped Insurance
When considering the purchase of a moped, it is imperative to consider the purchase of moped insurance. In larger cities, and congested traffic, it may seem like a good idea to speed in and out of traffic. This is not the case. And increased speeds decrease the amount of time the rider has to react quickly. So slow down, and think about those driving around you.
Wear Good Safety Gear - A helmet is legally required. However, there are good helmets and poor helmets. Investing in a good crash helmet is highly recommended. At all costs we would urge you to stay away from the older open faced helmets which leave your face exposed. Also, please avoid dropping your helmet onto a hard surface such as concrete. Accidents like that can result in a helmet losing its strength. Additionally, your driver should be sure to wear appropriate clothing. A protective jacket and gloves are good ideas. If an accident happens, the appropriate safety gear will prevent injury.
Practice good moped maintenance - Making sure that your moped is roadworthy is another safety measure that makes good sense. In particular you should ensure that the brakes are checked regularly. You should also ensure that tires are properly inflated, and make sure that lights and signals are working properly.
These measures may not make a difference in moped insurance premiums at the start, but over the years will save money. A safer rider is a more attractive rider, but this trust and record is built over time. Aside from that however, being a safe rider is just a good idea for any motorist. Taking these precautions will ensure that one will be riding well into the future.
